Back label verbage (”romance copy”)

Man, it’s really tough to come up with something original, witty and appropriate.  I’ve spent a week trying to cobble something up that doesn’t sound corny enough to choke on.  Well after much fruitless contemplation and research, I’ve settled for a quote from the novel that I’ve taken the name “Mavin” from.

“No, love. I am a shape, a courtyard shape, a lover’s shape,
a pretty girl shape, a romantic evening shape. I have other
shapes for other times. With those other shapes, it would be
 a different thing…”

“Not at all. No matter what shape it may be, it would always
 be you inside it!”

A winery is conceived

Mavin, 2006 Pinot Noir by Whetwater WineryCrushpad, I’ve been pondering what to name my winery.  Wooo!  So pretentous, eh?  Well, behold: Whetwater Winery is born!  I don’t have any serious plans on selling my wine (or potential wines) online, but in this day and age, one needs to squat on any names worthy of being a domain name.  Setting up the temporary web site also encouraged me to develop a decent logo to use on my wine’s label.

Here’s my draft design for my label that I sent to Crushpad’s in-house designer Jenny to work off of:

As you can see, I’m using “Mavin” as the brand for my Pinot Noir.  I’ve decided to give each varietal wine I create at Crushpad a different brand name.  Yes, I’ll be buying a barrel when the 2007 harvest becomes available.

A productive vacation

I’m off this week to use up some carried-over vacation days.  Unlike typical vacations of late where I just play City of Heroes every waking moment until I have to go back to work, this one has been quite productive. I’ve completed my taxes and eFiled them already.  Truly a first in many a year.

I’ve also been going over my old web sites.  With the static ones, I only tweaked them a bit. Mainly the copyright year at their footers and swapping out some discontinued banners and such.

I’m currently giving the African Salvation Group’s web site an overhaul, mostly to tone it down.  The existing site has too much information, so I’m trimming it. I’m also simplifying the CSS so my site partner can do his own updates to it without hosing everything up.

I would also like to redo my So Called Hero/Villain web site. My expriments with CSS on it made updating the site clumsy. However, I don’t know what exactly that I want to do with it. Perhaps, I can use a real blog set up there too.
